Roxbury Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Connecticut Roxbury Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Connecticut Historic, idyllic Roxbury is one of the most scenic communities in all of New England. Roxbury is situated in the hilly region of Litchfield County; neighboring communities include Bridgewater, New Milford, Washington and Southbury. The main roadway, Route 67, links Roxbury to both New Milford and Southbury. Roxbury’s cozy population of about 2,000 enjoys a diverse surrounding landscape of woods, hillsides and waterways. Amid this country setting, the Roxbury lifestyle is generally quiet and family-oriented. Residential homes range from simple to expansive, and most of the properties have a high degree of privacy that’s just not available in most communities. Real estate options consist of detached, single-family homes. Public schooling is provided by the community-oriented Regional School District 12, which serves Roxbury as well as Bridgewater and Washington. Each town has its own elementary campus; middle and high school students attend Shepaug Valley Middle School and Shepaug Valley High School, respectively. Two major recreation destinations in Roxbury, Mine Hill and River Road Preserve, are very popular with hikers and nature enthusiasts. Both sites have scenic trail systems that are maintained by the Roxbury Land Trust. Mine Hill has long been an essential component of the town; shortly after Roxbury was settled in 1713, a silver mine was opened at the site. The mine was found to contain a form of iron that’s particularly well-suited for steel production. The quarries also contained large amounts of granite, some of which was used to construct the Brooklyn Bridge and New York’s Grand Central Terminal. |
